Consortium Delivers Multi-Source, Multi-Vendor Integration Standards One Year Ahead of Schedule

CHICAGO, IL - July 16, 1997 -- The Open Applications Group, Inc., a non-profit industry consortium comprised of the world's leading enterprise applications companies, today announced that it has published the next release of its integration specifications which covers comprehensive capabilities for open integration of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software applications.

OAGIS Release 5 represents approximately 60 person-years of development work on the part of the Open Applications Group member teams and provides robust functionality for the most needed ERP integration functions, including Core Financial, Human Resources, Manufacturing, and Logistics applications.

The benefits of open integration include the ability to more easily deploy and use applications from multiple sources, including purchased, customized, and "in-house" applications.

This Release of OAGIS 5 adds the following capabilities to the OAGIS Specification:

  1. Manufacturing to Human Resources
  2. Manufacturing to Purchasing
  3. Manufacturing to Order management
  4. Accounts Payable to Purchasing
  5. Invoice Matching for 2 way, 3-way, or 4-way matching
  6. Human Resources to Financials
  7. Chart of Accounts Synchronization

The OAGIS document itself has been redesigned for ease of use, including the addition of a new section that contains diagrams of many application integration scenarios supported by OAGIS.

"We are delighted with the progress the Open Applications Group has made in such a short time," said Paul Margolis, Chairman of the OAG. "Through the OAG, in just two years, the key ERP vendors have agreed on a robust specification for integrating the key components of their applications. As the customer and vendor communities begin to adopt these specifications, we will move closer to the reality of easy operability."

The reaction from customers to the specification release demonstrates their anticipation of improved interoperability through OAGIS Release 5 compliance. "I am very pleased that the Open Applications Group is making such excellent progress towards optimizing the integration of business applications," said Carlos Cabrera, Chief Information Officer of Sun Chemical. "Sun Chemical is anxious to implement OAG-defined integration to ease the burden of integrating financial and manufacturing ERP products from separate vendors."
