VisionML

Description

Vision Markup Language (VisionML) is a collaborative effort by vision industry stakeholders to remove unnecessary cost, delay, and error from eye care delivery by streamlining communications between practitioners and their trading partners. VisionML will focus on standards for semantic interoperability in the following clinical information areas:

  • Clinical data to support eyewear prescribing and ordering
  • Eyewear product information (frames, lenses, contact lenses)
  • Insurance plan eligibility and payment rule concepts

OAGIS Business Object Documents (standard XML message formats) will be created for the following operational areas:

  • Supply Chain Management: Providers obtaining prescription eyewear products from lens laboratories and other suppliers.
  • Insurance Management: Providers obtaining eligibility information, claim status, and payments from eyewear benefit plans.
